I agree. Yoda is to blame for even more than that. He refuses to take Anakin in for proper Jedi training, leaving Obi-Wan who just became a Jedi to try to train him. He adheres to flawed dogma which precludes any sympathy for a young boy who has been required to leave his mother behind in slavery. He dismisses Obi-Wan's warnings about Anakin becoming arrogant, turning the conversation to a slap against Obi-Wan. Then he and Mace send Anakin off on a solo mission his master doesn't believe he's ready for.
By the time of ESB, I think Yoda has learned a bit, but he's still pretty wrong about some major points. Fortunately, Luke ultimately (in RoTJ) finds the right path anyway.

That's a good point. After all, they don't know what species he is. Maybe he an Yaddle got some scientific experiment on them to make them live longer.
