I do not profess to be an expert on this subject. But I wonder if it possible Padme survives to live a long life. We know Leia has some memory. I wonder if it was possible that she, like Obi Wan, went in to hiding to protect herself and her children.

From the books, Padme DOES die. Leia remembers her mother, but she lost her.. not whether she dies in Episode III at the hands of Dooku or in Episode IV on Alderaan, we will haveto wait to see.

Not necessarily. She's very strong in the force and that may well have heightened her memory. The conversation went (I think):
Luke: 'Do you remember your mother? Your real mother?' Leia: 'Just a little bit, she died when I was very young' Luke: 'What do you remember?' Leia: 'Just images, really, feelings' Luke: 'Tell me' Leia: 'She was very beautiful. Kind, but sad'
Sort of sounds, the way she describes it, just images in her mind, not necessarily firm memories as we know them. Could well be that she's a toddler when she dies, I guess we'll wait and see but I can't imagine they'll have a 2 or 3 year gap within the story. The most we've had before was a few days or so at the end of Empire.

I would guess that her death is what turns Anakin to Vader. Obi One must make Anakin choose duty over Padame (as in AOTC on the ship when she falls off.) Because of this choice, she dies. This then creates the fight between Ben and Anakin in which Anakin falls into the lava pit. I do however, remember in some books about Luke searching for his mother. I also remember him finding her? Can anyone remember this?
