I really didn't get a stalker feel. He didn't force himself on her. He was persistent, even obsessive, though. But she never once said that she didn't reciprocate his feeling, despite him questioning her. She was against the relationship not because she didn't want it, but because she didn't think it possible. He knew that. He never wanted anything of her that she didn't want to give.
And, when she flat-out said no. When she gave her real reasons, and said that it would destroy them, he backed off. Stalkers don't back off.
I aknowledge that I wasn't entirely comfortable with his behavior, but I don't think it qualified as stalkerish.
