Why are some people on rude on Newsgroup.

I had just seen the latest Stars Wars and had asked a 'plot question' in this newsgroup.

I received 1 informative answer and a some 'stupid responses'. I think people who don't want to help someone asking a question, should just ignore the post.

PS. Not everyone 'lives' for this movie. I just wanted a simple answer to the question.

BTW, someone did answer the question.

PSS. The original question was 'Is Anikan Darth Vader'. Big deal, I did not know this. That's why I asked the question.

Amazingly enough, not everyone has seen the original movies.

People are rude on the newsgroups because they can be. They're basically anonymous, there's really no way to get back at them if they tork you off, and they get a cheap thrill from doing it. Small thrills for small minds, as it were.

In the midst of all the chafe, there is still some nuggets of gold, so don't abandon the newsgroups too easily though. Just be prepared and not too thin skinned...

If you hang out on any given newsgroup long enough, you'll get a sense for what sorts of questions the rude people will jump on. And you'll also get a sense of the specific individuals to avoid.

That's the trouth - but how would he know the name 'Darth Vader'?

I have a friend who has never seen *any* Star Wars movies. She's heard of Darth Vader though, everyone has because it's a pop cliché now, 'I am your father.' But knowing that Anakin Skywalker = Darth Vader isn't the same as knowing Darth Vader is Luke Skywalker's father... *if* you're going by pop culture references and not the actual movies.

For instance, it was only last year that I actually got around to seeing the original KING KONG, even though knowing most of the story just from all the other movies I've seen which reference it.

Yeah! You took the words right out of my mouth, Les! I mean...do we really have to be so proud just cos we know a lot of info about Star Wars? If we are true fans, we should be patiently introducing more fans to this legendary legacy that Lucas has established, instead of mocking at those who are ignorant. Lawrence, on behalf of those rude 'fans', I apologise. Pls do not abandon this newsgroup if you are really interested. Stay on...and you might become the greatest of all fans, knowing much more than those who are proud of the fact that they know Anakin becomes Darth Vader! Who knows...you might actually unravel the mystery of the Sith before Episode 3!

Btw, this posting reminds me of everyone's favourite Star Wars character Jar Jar Binks, who mentioned about 3-4 times (Ok...so I can't remember! Mock me, true 'fans'!) in TPM, 'How rude!' One of his cuter moments.
