Why did the green, flat-face Viceroy want to take over Naboo in Episode I? I have no friggin idea BUT... it does make sense that he wants revenge and that's why he's behind the AOTC assassination attempts, supervised by Jango Fett. That makes sense. Viceroy tells Jango: 'There's this pretty little bitch I'm really pissed at. She's a Senator now. Bump her off.'
That plot point begins the story in AOTC although we don't know for sure it's Viceroy , nor see him until the final reel.
What doesn't make sense is Padme entering Chancellor Palpatine's chambers and saying that she thinks Count Dooku is behind it. She should';ve said, 'I think Viceroy Newt Gunray is behind it.' That is the most logical choice of someone holding a grudge against her. Even she should see that - even without Force premonition capabilities.
No. Instead she was given a line to invoke the name of Dooku, just like the opening text crawl, to allude to the fact that at some point in this movie, Dooku will be introduced and he will have a prominent role in the twists and turns.
Why would Dooku want Senator Amadila dead? Don't know, concept makes no sense. Why would Viceroy want her dead? Revenge. That does make sense. Moral of the story......her dialogue should have been different in the Chancellor's Chambers scene.
