What was all that nonsence yoda was spouting about Luke being too old to train as a Jedi, when in just a very short space of time he mastered enough to defeat darth vader?

'Mordaunt'

Yoda had great fear that Luke would go the same way as Anakin, they used very excuse not to train Anakin... fear of the prophecy.

stench when I came on board:

Most Jedi candidates start training as little ones, not late teens to twenties. If they thought Ani was too old at 9-ish, then what must they have thought of 21? You can develop many bad habits growing up that they wouldn't want you to have. That is why Luke had to 'unlearn what you have learned'.

Go ahead 'Mordaunt', make my day...

Jedi training normally commences at the age of 6 months. At 23 years old Luke was too old just as his father was considered too old at 9. Of course Yoda had no choice but to train him despite his advanced years (Luke's that

This is just my own interpretation: I think that the force was so strong in Luke that it didn't matter that he didn't start his training till much latter than your average Jedi. Also, if you remember, he completed a good deal of his training by himself after leaving Yoda in ESB and returning in ROTJ. At that point, Yoda informed him that all that remained for him to do was face his father, 'Then a Jedi, You will be'. (or something like that) It used to bother me because I kept wondering how much better Luke could have been if he had been properly schooled. I finally decided that it wouldn't have made much difference. He became among the mightiest of all Jedi the way it was.... I doubt if he could have been much (if any) better even if he had trained from early childhood.

Defeat Vader? I must have missed this. I recall Luke lying on the floor in pain whilst DB tosses the Emperor down a realllly deep hole.

The prophecy of the one who will bring balance to the Force. The Jedi believe that Anakin is the Chosen One but they're unclear as to what that actually means.
