Just wondering, were the books written before the movie or are they based on the screenplays? Reason why I'm asking is I'd like to read the books, but if they're exactly like the movie (without any extra stuff) then it would probably be a waste of time since I've seen them so many times over...

Comments?

Thanks....

Often the books have extra bits in them, usually based upon the background info that LucasFilm comes up with when they're creating their universes. A lot of this exta info is the stuff in the cross-sections and visual dictionary.

The book with the densest feel and the most background, IMHO, is still the original novelization of Star Wars by George Lucas. But it's been awhile.

Go ahead 'Bigdawg', make my day... first.

The book was published in 1976 and the movie was released in 1977. The book you're looking for is Star Wars: From the Adventures of Luke Skywalker by George Lucas. All of the novelizations of the movies were released before the movies.
