Harsh toke for all those 'Star Wars' nerds lusting for Natalie Portman. The woman who plays Padme Amidala doesn't share your interests one little bit. She's never been into 'Star Wars.' 'It really wasn't my thing. It still isn't my thing, the whole science-fiction action thing,' Portman told the press. 'I prefer simpler, character-based movies.' That sound you hear is the simultaneous wilting of countless plastic light sabers ...

He or She has posted constantly today, probably looking for someone to talk to really. They get pleasure from people replying to their posts, a sort of substitute for people who ignore them all day long in real life. The net is their only real friend.

I like they way he goes around insisting that he has a life, and that star wars fans are 'geeks' and 'nerds'. Even though he's gone to the trouble of subscribing to a newsgroup, and post a tone of incredibly sad messages. I wonder if he knows what the word irony means. I don't really get how enjoying a sci-fi film automatically give you the label of nerd or geek, I'd have though it's just make you a film fan. Hell I suppose some people just like stereotypes.

I agree. There's obviously a difference between a 'geek' or 'nerd' (however you want to define those labels) and simply someone who loves sci-fi, fantasy or movies in general. I'm sure even the most fanatical Star Wars 'freaks' have wonderful, fufilling lives seperate from the Star Wars universe. It doesn't automatically make you a loser.

I actually think so-called 'Nerds' and 'Dweebs' are kinda cool, they know loads of stuff nobody else does, there useful to have around, and the conversation aint gonna be dead boring, rather talk to a nerd than some air head chick who only knows about blusher.
