2 nitpicks...

Why do Jango, Boba and R2D2 use rockets? There are all kinds of anti-gravity devices...speeders, droids and probes. Zam's droid flies very fast, and can carry Obi-Wan.

So why rockets? It seems the major limitation is fuel...

And...what's with C3PO? He's already at the Lars home?! And then he gets bought AGAIN in ep4? I know, it is a small thing, but a SILLY small

I didn't like the R2D2 'rockets'. According to Entertainment Weekly, those R2D2 rockets have a 20 year warranty! That's why we never see them again.

C3PO looks very different 20 years later in ep4. Also, droids are like appliances in the Star Wars universe. Would you recognize your Maytag refrigerator 20 years later after a complete overhaul? Also, the droids have programmed intelligence. They are just machines, after all. Their long-term memory of people, events, and places seems lacking. That's one way to rationalize it.

The answer [George Lucas let it slip recently]: the droids will have their memories wiped. It's the reason why they don't remember Tattooine, the Lars farm, or the fact that Anakin Skywalker is Darth Vader.

Even better...would you recognize your parent's maytag refrigerator after 20 years (and I thought it was longer than that between episodes 2 and 4.

The other we see in the original trilogy does not. Lower voice, not prissy.

Anyway, C3PO can speak six million languages but cannot recognize a farm my five-year-old recognized in AOTC the moment it came on screen ... eh.

Eh, I'm tired of this line of reasoning because it simply does not hold up.

There are no appliances in my house that speak to me, nor are there any that have distinctive and recognizable personalities. None. Even if I drink a lot.

Clearly C3PO had a distinctive personality, even for protocol droids. Had he not, folks like Luke, Han and Leia would disregarded the droid as 'another one of those protocol droids' rather than treat him like a unique individual, giving him nicknames and all. Hell, the damn model wouldn't have sold if that was its normal personality.

I have seen people use appliances, cars and other devices as an analogy for C3PO ... and it just doesn't hold water. Not even close. C3PO is a person. A mechanical person, sure, but based on the way he is treated, as close to a person a non-person could possibly get. The 'refrigerator' argument just does not work.

And mine don't talk.
