Anyone know why Captain Panaka (Hugh Quarshie) was not in Episode II?
I don't his character died in the Phantom menace...

the character didn't die... but old hugh decided to become a punk ass bitch after tpm came out and apparently wasn't happy about the part he was slated for in aotc. lucas told him to get lost.

The actor, Hugh Quarshie, did not wish to reprise his role. In terms of the films, there are absolutely countless explanations. He could have died, retired, been on vacation, etc. Most likely, though, he was part of the security force protecting the queen, which Padme no longer is.

According to the novelization of Ep II, Captain Typho is Panakas nephew and was hand selected by Panaka to head Senator Amidalas security. Also, Panaka apparently is still the Queens security chief, although it is now Queen Jamillia. Didn't know Hugh did not wish to continue in his role as Panaka.
