We all do, but I think it's done so that when someone who hasn't seen them watches the films 1-6, it will be a surprise.
If you didn't know Star Wars, this could prove to be as big a shock as Vader being Luke's dad (well, maybe not, but it'll be a pretty major twist?!)

Well, it can go two ways...
1) Lucas can suddenly reveal in the next movie that SURPRISE, they are the same person, making the coy way he handled it in these two movies lame beyond belief.
or
2) Lucas can spring some dramatic twist that Sideous is actually Palpatine's clone/evil twin/alter-ego/gay partner or whatever, which will be lame beyond belief.

It ALREADY is stupid. It's like some false sense of suspense that nobody likes - like watching a 2 year old try and do a magic trick.
