I have a feeling that Palpatine is Anakin's biological father.... If you look at one scene in AOTC, Palpatine walks along with Anakin at it's side.... Almost the same exact scene (the position of the hands, the way they walk, etc.) can be seen in ROTJ between Luke and Darth Vader.
Now... wouldn't be ironic that :
Luke kills his father that just killed HIS father. All of this in a 4 minutes time span ?!?
That my friend, is big familial problems !

Actually I thought of the scene in ROTJ where Darth Vader and the Emperor were walking next to each other when I saw that scene in AOTC.

I would see that scene mirroring the attempt to corrupt a young Jedi - Palpatine was successful, Vader not. I doubt we'll hear any news about Anakin's father - seems Lucas has stated the facts and wants to keep them as they are. The only one who could really know better, Shmi, is no longer available for details...
