(Crackle Crackle woosh woosh sizzle ... but you've got to say the fight scenes are better in Episodes 1 and 2)

No comparison. You might as well say the digital animation sequences are better in PM than in SW.
It might be true but the advances in movie making make the point irrelevant.
For fight scenes, you have to compare PM/ AOTC with contemporary movie fight scenes not with movies made in the 1970s or 1980s.
Compare the fight scenes in PM with Matrix or Crouching Tiger, HD (remember I said fight scenes only) and we have a fairer comparison.

I actually thought they were less compelling and less gripping. Maybe more visually stunning in some cases but less exciting less emotionally involving.
The Storm Troopers coming down the hall of Leia's ship at the beginning of Wars was way more intense than the huge battle at the end of AOTC between droids and clones.

Dont get me wrong mate, I luv Star Wars IV to VI. I watched A New Hope only yesterday and loved every minute of it (and I must have seen it 50 times between the age of 11 and 16 oh so long ago). However, I do conceed that Ep 1 and 2 are, visually, more stunning!

So do I. But the battle sequences are often less compelling because we cant feel apart of it. They blow by too fast and we never know most of the combatants or care whether they live or die.

There sure are but they manage through all the corny dialog to reveal personality and emotion through the corny dialog. In Episodes 1-2 the bad dialog is just wooden and does nothing but string the plot along.
