I want to know what you all think and I want you to add, tinker whatever... have fun with it, take it places.... just don't be too cruel about spelling. I don't have a checker installed yet...)
Hope you Enjoy...
OK Folks. Laying in all down I'll give it a shot. This is my take on the final moments of Anakin and the seed of what would become Vader...
First off.
ANH: Obi-Wan gives Luke Vader's / Anakins 'Saber saying ' Your Father wanted you to have this when you were old enough...' ANH: Vader to Obi-Wan prior to their last battle . ' We meet again at last...'
OK. We can assume the first line might be bollocks. Ben's not into telling Luke the whole 'truth' at this point, but apart from the Vader / Anakin 'cover up', he seems to be accurate with the rest of it. This suggest to me that Vader KNOWS ben will be in some way 'protecting' or 'caring' for Luke, his son. The second line backs up the idea that Vader knows Obi-Wan is alive and well. 'We meet again at last!' I believeVader's expecting Obi-Wan's return! When and where maybe uncertain, but some place, some time....
ESB: Luke and Vader duke it out in Cloud City, the whole 'I am your father' routine.
Now I accept during the hiatus between ANH and ESB, Vader's done a bit of research and discovered who Luke is... But get this, there's no suprise. There's no guessing that 'Obi-Wan never told you...' this that and the other. Vader KNOWS Obi-Wan's been coaching Luke, teaching and informing him.
ESB (actually could well have been ROTJ) : During the fight, 'Obi-Wan has tought you well'. To me that's the clincher! Vader isn't just assuming that because he had a very brief glimpse of some blonde kid around the time he killed Obi-Wan that this is his long lost son taught by Obi-Wan . Vader knows that the possibilty of facing Obi-Wan could well lead to he and his son's paths crossing. Vader's prepared! And that's the deal...
So how does this come about when supposedly Vader was predominantly responsible, at the Emperor's behest, for wiping out as many Jedi as possible? How could he not go after the one man who betrayed him more than any other... Obi-Wan...unless,...unless...
Just beffore his final 'turning' (or I admit, maybe just after) I think this is what hapens:
Anakin sees what's coming. He has a son, his last remaing tie to any emotion other than fear, hatred and the need for ultimate revenge and power! He confronts Obi-Wan (now I think about it I'm more convinced it's in some sort of proto 'post injury / pre bondage gear' Vader). Obi-Wan is at his mercy... Vader / Anakin then makes a monumentally fateful call...
Kenobi is down, His life now entirely in the hands of his former friend and student
'Kenobi. I am beyond the light. I know nothing but rage. I will kill you. You and everything that stands before me. I can not control the hatred and I have nothing precious to hold me back. Only suffering and pain mean anything to me now. Everything I was has been destroyed, everything I cared for, everything that made me Anakin Skywalker has been torn apart and shattered beyond recognition. There is only one thing left I can do before my life is devoured by the Dark Side. I do this for the memory of those I loved and those who were taken away. Lives ruined and wasted by those whose arrogance sought to manipulate and control destiny's not their own.... '
A final tear, the last he will ever shed rolls down his haggered, scarred face...the face of a man twenty years his senior,
'Watch my Son Kenobi. Watch him and protect him and swear he will never stand before me for his sake and yours. And Kenobi, know this! If our paths should ever cross again, I will destroy you. For now you live Kenobi, you will live knowing that you, the last ambasador of the Jedi failed before me and that I had your life in my hands. I spare you. Your life is mine! You will always owe me for that, and so you will be a father to my son. You are a beaten man, no longer a Jedi. That is a burden you will live with for the rest of your days and being who you are, a burden worse than any death I could lend you....'
Now as almost a flippant afterthought, a confident and magnaminous Vader could at this point flip his 'Anakin Sabre' to Obi-Wan saying,
'This is for the boy Kenobi, this will always be a reminder, both to you and to him, of the Jedi's distant, powerless memory' or some other such nonsensical line. (It's late and I'm tired... and I'm hoping you can come up with a lot better dialogue than this)....
So that's my basic gist.
Vader, in a last calm moment, out of a glimmer of respect for Padme and his mother (and a ghostly memory of a young boy many years ago who found albeit fleetingly, a father in the form of a long dead Jedi), passes the responsibilty of fatherhood to Obi-Wan. In return he 'grants' the Jedi life and an 'understanding' that the next time, it's fatal. He leaves Kenobi broken, yet still noble to find his own broken path to redemption...
And Finally just as a whimsy, I would LOVE to see the final showdown between Anakin, Obi-Wan and 'other/s' as a three or four way dance... Imagine for example, Dooku, Anakin and Obi-Wan sizing each other up, sabers crackling, embers surrounding them pacing, pacing... Then all hell breaks loose! Anakin's after Dooku and delving deep in to the Dark Side in order to match him, Obi-Wan desperately trying to protect Anakin, trying to get invoved, trying to take the brunt of Dooku's attention. Dooku doesn't give a shit! He'll take both of them...But he kind of likes this Anakin, he recognises the potential...an apprentice perhaps? He's defending against Anakin, rallying againt Obi-Wan, all the while quietly goading the young man agains't his Master ... (Obi-Wans fault, the Jedi forbade your marriage, your hapiness, the Jedi cost your loved ones, your wife, your mother... their very souls!) .... Obi-Wan 'Dont' believe him Anakin, you must see what he's trying to do to you, to us!'... The battle become closer, more intense, Anakin lost ever more to a deep deep rage, Dooku leering, salivating at the possibilty.... Obi-Wan becoming desperate... It's all gone so horribly out of control, Obi Wan has only one Chance. He has to control Anakin beet him down and suffer the explanations an consolation another, calmer time... But Anakin senses this and at a pivotal moment, blinded by the most intense anger imaginable, he succumbs to Dooku's poisonous words and turns on his teacher.... the end has begun....
Peace all. (phew! Thank F**k that's over
