I would guess is to he could go back to the Council and create distrust of the Republic.

But then again, he would have to assume that Obi-Wan would eventually

i so noticed that. old 'batman' or 'scooby doo' shows did it consistantly and annoyingly. terrible, just terrible. but i think lucas strives for that 50's sci-fi 'pulp fiction' style hence the title.

Plus, in a couple of interviews, GL has noted that this movie (especially the title) is a kind of 'tribute' to the old SciFi B-Movies that were the predecessors to the SW universe.....

It shows up a hell of a lot more than I expected, though! (Evil Overlord mentality, gladiator giant mutant beasts, Christopher Lee is a B-Movie Icon in his own right, etc....)

It's a usual movie cliche where the bad guy has to spell out his plans to the members of the audience who are too stupid to get it.

Go ahead 'Brodie', make my day...

Because he knew he wouldn't be believed. Listen to Yoda at the end of the movie. 'Lies, deceit, creating mistrust are his ways now.' He told the truth knowing that it would do them more harm them good as they would be sure he was lying.

Maybe Dooku thinks that if Obi Wan joins him, together they can get rid of the emperor and he will be in power, the same way Vader wanted Luke to help him kill the emperor. Also, why the hell doesn't Luke know about stopping lightning with his Light Saber? Surely Yoda and Ben knew he would have to deal with it.

Go ahead 'Bill', make my day...

Yoda did warn him not to underestimate the Emperor's powers. In any case Luke had tossed his lightsabre away before being fried.

Christopher Lee was a 'A' list actor of 'A' movies. 'B' movies were a thing of the past long before he came to acting prominence. Don't be so quick to denigrate people; Mr. Lee himself wouldn't find it amusing to be called a 'B' movie icon.
