I agree wholeheartedly.

One thing though: just because Solo says 'the ship that made the Kessel run in 14 parsecs' doesn't mean that Lucas thought a parsec is a measure of time. (or maybe he was, but someone came up with a cool save leter, because..) in 'the Hutt Gambit' it is explained that flying close the Maw (a cluster of black holes near Kessel) Solo and the Falcon actualle shaved a few parsecs off the trip - space warps because of the black holes, etc etc.

Once again, the books come to Lucas' rescue. Even though he never reads them I think.

He doesn't read them and doesn't need them. In the screenplay for the movie it's clear that Obi-Wan realizes that Han has no idea what he's talking about and is just boasting to make himself look good.
