How come Dooku tipped off Obi-Wan that the Senate is in the hands of a Sith Lord? Dooku is _helping_ the Sith Lord.

Maybe to make him think that Dooku was actually on the side of good so that Obi Wan would join him, notknowing that he was really on the side of evil........

In terms of storytelling, this is to fool the viewer into thinking (for a while) that Dooku actually does have good intentions overall. It's not revealed until later that he's Darth Tyranus and his master is Darth Sidious.
However, the most interesting possibility is that Dooku really does have his own agenda to overthrow Darth Sidious, despite acting as his agent.

Truth in the hands of a liar is more damaging. He didn't tell the whole truth. He is a Sith. So that makes it all the more confusing for everyone.

As a plot device, it created confusion. I spent part of the movie wondering if Dooku wasn't perhaps the leader of the very early Rebellion. I was half-tempted to root for him instead of against him.
Now, that's as a plot device. His true motives are tougher to phathom. Perhaps he throught Obi-Wan might really join him, since Obi-Wan is sort of his grandson, in Jedi terms.
