Um, the bad guy won. It was hardyly 'uplifting' considering they were all celebrating while oblivious to the peril they had gotten into.

I'd always thought Lucas *was* always directing, so I had a look at my ESB video box :

director Irvin Kreshner producer Gary Kurtz Sceernplay Leigh Brackett & Lawrence Kasdan

and just

story by George Lucas, and he's mentioned as an 'executive producer'.

So why was *his* name the only one associated with star wars since the real talent behind the early films seems to have been other people? Did he have other input in ANH and ESB besides drafting the original stories? Was it his idea to use the ewoks in ROTJ?

Credits can lie.

There is practically nothing of Leigh Brackett's in the film, she was given credit because she died while the film was being written and they had great respect for her and her work.

For the ten millionth time: GEORGE LUCAS WROTE EMPIRE!!!

And Kasdan polished the script.

Lucas wrote and directed ANH. Wrote JEDI (again with Kasdan). Wrote and directed TPM and ATOC (with polish by Johnathan Hales).

And though neither Empire or Jedi were directed by Lucas, he was on set for both films and had a lot of input. If I remember, Kershner was a bit pissed off at Lucas for vetoing him on certain things in Empire.
