I have an mpg copy.
The opening voice-over states:
'Somewhere in space...this may be happening right now.'
Huh? I thought it was 'a long time ago...' (you know the line.)
Either 20th CFox made this theatrical trailer without checking with Lucas
OR...... Lucas decided at the very last minute to set the story 'a long time ago'
Interesting, the STAR WARS title graphic is not what we are used to. The font is plain, (S and T are not attached, R and S are not attached) and the letters are blue.
Just a quirky thing, I guess.

If anyone out there has the 1999 'Psyence Fiction' album by U.N.K.L.E... is this the same sample used in the first track...?

Not only that but the poster called it 'The Star Wars' and Luke (if that's Luke on the poster) has a beard.

The 5 original posters (1977) I have do not say 'The Star Wars', but they are UK versions... The font isn't even plain, or blue. It is more a simple block character. The first poster shows Luke with a beard, I never found out why!
The trailer does have a voice-over that does not match the script on-screen, but then again they were not supposed to match up. Fox were responsible for the trailers, GL simply completed the filming.
The 'StarWars' logo we know today was used from 1978 once the commercial products were in demand. The poster for the re-release in 1979 used this format, although ESB and ROTJ had the Star and Wars were split with the episode title in the middle.

I remember seeing a trailer on TV at the time it was released and thinking - that looks good!
