Episode III plot speculation...

Bail Organa is Leia's adoptive father and assumes his name. When Luke and Leia were young they were separated, Luke on Tatooine living with his uncle and aunt whilst Leia was taken to Alderaan. Alderaan being destroyed by the Death Star in Episode IV.

I doubt it - Obi-wan tells Luke that 'Vader helped the Emperor hunt down and destroy the Jedi Knights.' So unless Lucas is screwing things around again, this can't happen until Anakin becomes Vader... and if we don't get to see Anakin become Vader in the next one, what's the point?

Exactly. How exactly did this relationship happen? Notice there's NO mention of Bail Organa having a wife or their own children. I think that a relationship between Padme and Bail will either occur or be implied. It worked really well in Excalibur. Of course, we know that Lucas would never borrow a plot device.

Well, I hope we get to see a bit more than that. But yeah, you could be right - a lot of it could continue past episode III.

I disagree. I'm hoping that no Bail/Padme relationship will occur. Also, in ROTJ Luke asks about Leia's 'real mother' and that to me implies that she had an adoptive mother as well as an adoptive father. Maybe Bail got married again later, but I'm going with Bail and his wife sheltering Padme and Leia, and adopting Leia (probably at birth) in part to protect her.
