That's actually a very good point. Audiences certainly have changed since the originals. I wish that fact didn't affect the Star Wars films but it's still a very valid point.

Go ahead 'Bill Kohlleppel', make my day...

Yes I know. As others have said it makes it more multi-layered and, in many ways, more satisfying than the OT but this element seems to fly directly over the heads of many critics who either ignore it or don't see it. The prequels are much more complicated storywise than we're used to with Star Wars but many people think that the inclusion of Jar Jar Binks automatically negates the plot. It doesn't.

And 'complicated layers' don't make a movie GOOD either. If each layer is done badly, poorly presented, doesn't make much sense, then how is the movie good? What's complicated are the fans' attempts to make sense of this poorly laid out story, with it's poorly detailed 'layers.' Try to seperate the complexity of your own attempts to fill in the blanks with the actual quality of the flick. Did the movie sweat the details, or are you doing so? Give credit where credit is due.

Part of the movie, being the first in a new series, is that it has to leave some unanswered questions. Many of us have speculated on some of those multilayered plot lines, many of which will be dispelled in the coming films. Some won't be answered at all and that will leave it to our imagination. Ooo, scary thought huh? A movie not answering all its questions itself...maybe encouraging people to think? If they didn't like it they won't bother thinking about it, and that's their choice.

But that's not the point. One of the criticisms people make is that there is no plot. Not that the plot is too complicated ... and for some people it is ... but that there WAS no plot. That's a flagrant lie.

Go ahead 'Robert*Whelan', make my day...

The details are there for all to see. Some people refuse to do so. It wasn't until 1999 that I realized tall poppy syndrome was a worldwide phenomenon.

Tall poppy syndrome? You've got to be kidding! There was a *very* good reason that TPM was not received as well as everyone thought it would be, and that reason was something called 'bad directing'. It had absolutely nothing to do with the film being 'so great that people had to cut it down'. If you believe this, then you are truly delusional. Live with the facts, and hope that GL actually improves on the last with AOTC. (You can't hope for much more. Don't expect it to be as good as the original trilogy.)

Go ahead 'Rebert-Whiling', make my day...

Just one example: 'in my experience there's no such thing as luck.' Obi-Wan wasn't spouting platitudes in ANH and yet people refuse to see that Anakin didn't destroy the Droid control ship through luck. That the Force can guide one's actions has been made abundantly clear.

Go ahead 'Robert Whelan', make my day...

Would you like names?

The Force moves in mysterious ways.

It did not. That was his conscience guiding him and the strong advice of his co-pilot.

I wrote the first thing that came to mind. There are more. Watch the movie and discover them for yourself. Watch all four movies together and get a sense of the bigger picture. Not all of the answers are spelled out but an intelligent child can work them out.
