Do you guys think that perhaps GL did not predict the stunning popularity of Darth Maul in Episode I? If he did, wouldn't he have given him more scenes/lines? Perhaps he would not have killed him off until Episode II? Of course, only GL himself knows for sure, but we all can still look back and wonder. Personally, I think GL underestimated DM big time. Does anyone actually believe that Darth Tyranis will equal DM's popularity and cult status? I'll almost bet my life that he won't even come close. In my opinion, DM the the greatest character in all of SW, perhaps even cooler (and it pains me to say this) than Darth Vader himself.

Darth Maul served his purpose to the story and needed to die, really.
Part of the reason he was so successful is that he is not seen much. Thus the audience gets a teasing glimse. That mystery makes him much more exciting. If we saw Darth Maul taking a dump or eating pizza with Palpatine as they watched a DVD of 'Harry Potter', he would lose that mysterious edge.
George knew what he was doing. He makes it pretty obvious that he doesn't care what people think.
Most of the best movie villains are seen rarely - just look at how crap horror sequels get when the 'baddie' becomes the anti-hero when they become the focus.

It would have been nice to see a clone of Darth Maul make an appearence in AOTC or at least Episode 3, it doesn't make sense that The Emporer DIDN'T clone such an awesome Sith warrior.

Then it's a good thing he didn't have more scenes and lines. Nobody would have thought he was cool then.

Palpatine still should have cloned Maul though, AND Vader too if he'd had ANY sense.

Here's my theory... with an Army of Mauls, Palpatine would have had to worry about mutiny.... they'd be too powerful.... to my knowledge, these clones were basically power-by-numbers, not force...
Just a thought... I don't know.

I thought Maul was the equivalent of the boogie man. Looked scary and popped up every now and then to snarl and give people a scare. Then he was dead before you knew it. Just another shallow character in TPM. He should have been given more lines and time to discover his background.

How would he have got cells from him? He *did* fall down a rather large reactor shaft, or whatever it was.

Now this is interesting; could you clone force abilities, or would you just get a big dumb Maul (or Vader)?
