I'm thinking that a Dark Jedi is someone who is a Jedi who uses the dark side of the force, and if turned would become a Sith, but needn't necessarily ever get turned. 'The always two there is' argument stops all Dark Jedi from being Sith at the same time, anyway. Whereas a Sith need not originally have been a Jedi. The evidence? The Emperor is a Sith but he was never a Jedi as someone says to Vader 'You are all that remains of your religion' or something to that effect in ANH when he says he sensed Obi-Wan's presence, which implies that the Emperor was never a Jedi. Anyway i don't read EU stuff so is Dark Jedi as a term strictly non-

Of all the gin joints in all the world, Jimmy Dahlqvist walks into mine

Maybe, but no-one who meets Luke Skywalker asks him whether he is any relation to Anakin Skywalker, do they!

I'm reading a lot of EU right now, and some of it is quite well written. I'm speaking mostly of Timothy Zahn, Greg Bear, and even Barbara Hambly. But the Kevin Anderson stuff is just too over the top. He pulls things out of the air that are just too damn silly, even for fantasy, such as the hive-minded Taurill pets of Durga the Hutt. Plus, his writing seems to be mostly summary (and then this happened and then this happened, etc.). It's clear from the text that he puts whatever comes to mind on the page and revises little.

I took the 2 sith rule to mean that sith are always in pairs, a master and a apprentice. When Darth Maul was discovered they new that there would be at least one more Sith running around some were ever his master of his

That would make more sense, but it doesn't fit with the backstory that was created about the Sith.

Go ahead 'Philip Heppenstall', make my day...

Palaptine was never a Jedi and nor was Maul. One doesn't need to have been a Jedi to become a Sith Lord.

Yes. There is no such thing as Dark Jedi in canon.

Of all the gin joints in all the world, [sliders] walks into mine

I'm with you on this one, canon is usually the latest versions of the films ie ANH SE rather than ANH, i think the novels don't quite count strictly speaking, or at least anything in the novels which contradicts the films isn't canon. I've never read any EU novels, and don't really want to so yeah DJ has to be non-canon (so far). I think the council's surprise with DM being a Sith is that the Sith have been keeping a low profile for 1000 years or something (although this in itself makes no sense as there would have been two at any one time, what where they up to????). They possibly thought DM was a Jedi, but he would have had to have been a renegade to have attacked a fellow Jedi for no apparent reason. There hasn't been anything so far to suggest renegade Jedis (= Dark Jedi???) but maybe that will occur later. I've deliberately stayed clear of the AOTC novel as i want to see the film first.

Dooku was a Jedi before he became a Sith, so you could class him as a renegade Jedi....I wouldnt class him as a Dark Jedi though, I'd class a Dark Jedi basically as the same thing as a sith, but without the obsession of trying to take over the entire universe.....(I wouldnt say they used both sets of Dark and Lightside force powers either, that I would call an 'Uber Jedi'

Maybe thats why the Sith are the Jedi's enemy in TPM and AOTC and AATA, because the Jedi are guardians of the Republic, the universe if you will, and Palpatine and his only Sith Friends (Maul, then Dooku, and soon Vader) are trying to take over the universe.....

********************SPOILER BELOW*********************************

If you havent read the book for AOTC's then this might be a little bit of a spoiler for you, but Yoda, Mace Windu, and Jocasta Nu all mention 'The Lost Twenty'. 20 Jedi who have left the Jedi Order, one of them being Count Dooku, surely if Dooku becomes a Sith and there can only be 2 at any one time as a general rule of thumb, then others who turned to the Darkside would be Dark Jedi, but wouldnt be mentioned because they dont have the lust for power that Dooku and Palpatine have......

Thats how I see it anyway...

I believe the only difference between a Dark Jedi and the Sith is just claiming the title. As I remember, the Sith were an order that was wiped out by the Jedi. The only way for them to come back is for a Dark Jedi to say, hey, I want to carry on the legacy of these guys. That whole there can only be 2 rule is bogus. Sure, that's the rule, but there is nothing stopping 2 jedi master's from claiming the title of Sith lord, and both taking apprentices. It's not like there is a Sith board that they can file a grievance with to see who has the rightful claim. So, in essence, I think you are right. The rest of the Lost 20 aren't Sith because they don't lust for power the same way.

Go ahead 'Twisted', make my day...

The 20 who left the order have simply left the order. They are no longer Jedi but have not turned to the dark side, with the exception of Dooku.
