with Anakin and his new mail-order bride at the balcony looking out at the sunset, R2 and 3PO to the right - seems like almost a carbon copy of the last scene in ESB to me. CP30 even pats R2s head

Shrug - they put a deliciously ironic twist on the ANH ending for TPM - I guess they decided to make ESB's ending an ironic twist on the AotC ending:

AotC: The woman is joined with the man she loves. ESB: The woman is rejoined with the man she doesn't love.

I'm not sure I like what this portends for the Ep3 ending, though.

Similar - but what a totally different feeling at the end of each film... the music is VASTLY different...

No doubt that Lucas is drawing deliberate parallels to the original trilogy - he calls it a visual haiku, or something like that.

More like 'The woman is separated from the man she loves.' and also 'The hero deals with the heavy fact the villain is his dad.'

In AOTC we mainly just get 'The Empire starts get its groove on.' lol

POSSIBLE SPOILER BELOW . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The only way I could think of to mirror the end of ROTJ in Episode III would be to have the spirits of deceased Jedi - possibly Mace Windu, and certainly Qui-Gon - looking over Obi-wan as he leaves Luke with the Lars family and then heads out into the Jungland Wastes.

In fact, I would almost put money on that!
