Just wondering if anyone knew how come Jabba was huge in Episode I, human-size in ANH SE and then huge in ROTJ again. Why didn't GL have him the same size in Episode I as in ANH SE which would at least have given it a bit of continuity. Seems Hutts have a pretty weird growth pattern. Maybe that's why they don't buy clothes.....

Go ahead 'Mac Rosevelt', make my day...
That was Gardulla the Hutt, Anakin's former owner.

I was talkig about '97 with 'back then'. 2 years were a long time in CGI evolution, especially with all the software development done for TPM after the SE. They could do decent CGI Aliens in 97, but matching a CGI with the look and movements of a very dynamic (the dynamics of body tissue, not the dynamics of aerobic) previously existing puppet was another story. They couldn't do it. By obviously altering Jabba they had to match neither the look nor the movements of the original.

Well, I would set the benchmark for realistic-looking CGI in 1993, with the release of Jurassic Park. Every film since then has had the technology and the technique readily available. In 1997 there was no excuse for bad CGI, so it must have been done that way on purpose.

Hmm... realistic-looking CGI. Maybe the problem with Jabba is that he isn't a realistic creature. Other than dinos or SW pseudo dinos (like dewbacks or brontos[?, ridden by jawas, bothered by swoop bikes]) which look far better than CGI Jabba, he doesn't seem to have a structure of bones and muscles based on which you could calculate and animate a realistic-looking CGI. Maybe today those witty animators at ILM could come up with a Jabba that looks like the good old puppet and is able to move around a little, but in 97 they obviously couldn't. Realistically Hutts just don't really work.

Of all the gin joints in all the world, Jay walks into mine No way, compare Han and Jabba in ANH SE and Leia and Jabba in ROTJ. Han is nearly the same size as Jabba, Leia is very small compared to Jabba. Anyway, all i'm saying is TPM Jabba should be more like the one in ANH SE than the one in ROTJ.

Leia was lying down on front of Jabba most of the time and she's much smaller than Han anyway.

Yeah, if they're going to make Jar Jar totally CGI why give Ahmed Best a costume? Declan Mulholland wore a costume, which you'll note is furry, to give an approximation of the size and appearance of the creature that would be inserted into the scene to replace him. It's all well documented. Besides, why have a naked guy standing around talking to Harrison Ford?

Yeah but then she stood up. Besides Jabba was very wide too in ROTJ and TPM compared to ANH SE. Not as MUCH smaller as Jabba is in ANH SE.
