Anakin is going to bring balance to the force? What does this prophecy mean? The only thing that I see as being unbalanced about the force is that the Jedi far out number the two Sith. By the end of ANH. Darth Vader kills Obi Wan leaving Two Sith and Two Jedi, Luke and Yoda. That sounds more balanced to me.

I've been asking the same thing over and over. The force is currently (as of EP1 & II) overwhelmingly on the 'light' side. What psychotic jedi WANTS to balance the force, considering the alternative?!?!?

To all you people that keep saying

2 Jedi, 2 sith = balance

You are freaking RETARTED!!!!

Why in the hell would the Jedi train a boy that would supposedly make an equal number of Jedi and Sith when the Jedi know THERE CAN ONLY BE 2 SITH?

Imagine this......

QuiGon: 'He is the one.' Mace: 'You refer to the one who will bring balance to the force.... Hmmmm, since there are thousands of us and 2 sith, lets train this boy so that we can all DIE!'

What I'm saying is, 'Surely that can't be the meaning...'

Does anybody have any theories about what the meaning IS?

Lea does have the force... remember in Bespin - she heared Luke's voice in her mind. Later on (when married to Han) she tried to get the hang of it - but the force has an other path for her - diplomatic and as (at the end) a leader of the new republic.

... if the books I've read are right, do.

The Jedi throughout EP 1-3 do not know what the force is like when the sith begins to rise, they have no experience of Sith effecting the force, they do not remmember the old battles between the Sith and the Jedi, that seemed to of happened millenia before TPM.

Then the Sith begin to rise, and warp the force, remmember 'Hard to see the Darkside is!', they also make the future hard to see, the present hard to see, they basically bend the force to their own will so that the Jedi arent as powerful.....To the Jedi this seems unbalanced, the force is not how they remmember it, therefore from their point of view (thanks Obi! hehe) destroying all the sith brings balance....

If you wanna know more check out the AOTC's novel it makes this pretty

Ok, here's my take on balance. The balance to me was Luke in Jedi. He seemed to me to be able to use both sides (light and dark) equally. Light in the changing of his father and dark in his assault on Jabba After all, Jedi are supposed to be on the defensive right? and that was clearly a premeditated assault. Hence he was balanced between the two sides. Compassion and wrath. With control over the two.

At the end of ANH there are 2 Sith and 3 Jedi (well 2 to be) Yoda, Luke and Leia. Anakin balances the Force by becoming Vader and eventually killing the Emperor. No more Sith. Balance.

Go ahead 'stephen nipperess', make my day... mean?

The issue of balance has nothing to do with equality of numbers. There was never an equal number of Sith Lords and Jedi Knights, except maybe for a short time before Yoda's death. Even one Sith Lord is too many. The Sith care for nothing except absolute power. In order to get this they will destroy anyone, including entire civilizations. The Force needs life in order to exist and since the Sith are so destructive their very existence threatens the Force. Anakin, or Luke depending on your point of view, destroys the Sith forever and thus restoring balance.

The TV ads about Anakin say profession: The Chosen One. I think this should be the deciding factor. It should go in the FAQ. Anakin = chosen one = balance to the force.
