Anybody else seen this? I recently downloaded an mpg of the first Episode II theatrical trailer (8.11 mb/runtime: 1:51). The whole piece of film does not say anything about Attack of the Clones. It is before that title was selected for the film. This is just a generic trailer but it has alot of quick shots of things that are *not* in AOTC.
It begins with a 20th Century-Fox banner, then Lucasfilm banner, then an overhead shot flying over sand dunes then mountains as John Williams' familiar 'Skywalker Theme' music plays. the screen goes black and the white text reads: 'Every general leads in battle...' cut to shot of Obi-Wan (McGregor) without a beard (so is this a TPM outtake?) Next text screen reads: 'Every queen discovers her destiny...' cut to: Portman in a brown tunic/shroud, as she looks back at someone in a grey hallway Next text screen reads: 'Every boy becomes a man...' cut to: Anakin (Christenson) close-up After Anakin's close-up, we see 'Braveheart' style warriors running outdoors (it looks cloudy overcast conditions) They are bearded and clothed in dark furry, well, Middle Ages Braveheart kind of clothes, and they have various-colored lightsabers, 100s of them. Then comes the bright indoor close-up of a girl with long stringy hair turning off her fushia/purple lightsaber (Who is she?) Then we see Jimmy Smits (without goatee) apparently at the controls of a ship and looking troubled after 3PO and R2 just told him something. Then comes a night shot of Coruscant traffic then the close-up of a dark-haired middle-aged man who resembles the priest from The Exorcist (Who is he?) He is in a dark room and looking downward slightly as if he is maybe sitting and looking at Yoda. There's another shot of Anakin apparently at night responded facially to someone out-of-frame talking to him, and there's even a Jar-Jar close-up in an amber-colored indoor setting...then exteriors Coruscant and Tatooine...etc etc At 1:06 into the film, there's an ROTJ Vader ship flying toward the camera, away from the darkside of a planet. There's then a quick clip of Anakin and Padme kissing (an outtake?) At 1:12 into the film, there's a shot of someone (Anakin?) as a dark silhuette walking across a dark sand dune while the twins suns are setting behind him. (Nice shot but why isn't it in AOTC? It's obviously been thru the ILM process. It was someone's assigned chore to add the second sun) Cut to: Dooku with a whiter beard and moustache than I recall in AOTC. He has a white collar visible on whatever he's wearing and he turns his head quickly and gives a dirty look to someone out-of-frame. At 1:17 there's a warm indoor shot of Padme hugging a shirtless Anakin. She looks sad. NOTE: Her hair is straight, not done up in weird hairdo. At 1:19.... grey metal doors part, slide open to reveal Jango - a Bunch o' Jango in identical Fett armor. At least four Boba/Jango Fetts with blasters drawn. (Where's this footage going? Why not in AOTC???) Then we see something in a rocky environ blowing up that I don't recall from TPM nor AOTC. At 1:22, Anakin in dark room, with lit saber, spying his opponent, a black-shrouded, hood and cape figure with a red saber who runs left and disappears behind a pillar. (All this indoors, looks like Naboo Palace) At 1:27 there's a creepy close-up of Sidious' pale face and blank eyes all surrounded in black. This shot reminds me of Emporer in ROTJ but this shot has not been used in ROTJ, TPM nor AOTC. (Is it being reserved for Ep III?) After a spilt-second shot of Yoda, at 1:28 there's a shot of Christopher Walken - no mistaking this guy- with no pupils in his eyes (creepy). Lightning is going off out-of-frame you see the flickering flash on his face. (Is Walken going to be in Ep III? Has he publicly leaked his participation in principal photography yet?) At 1:30, amidst the flickering of lightning, we see a close-up of Anakin with hands up to his face as he is in turmoil...pain...anguish...His mouth opens in a scream! (Is this an AOTC outtake or reserved for III?) Fade to black...then a close-up of Mace Windu looking serious...then the camera zooms in on someone's eyeball....zooms into the black center of the eye...to again a black screen.... fire expoldes in a horizontal flame that merges into the EPISODE II logo (No Attack of the Clones mention at all) At 1:44, Pause and examine: The official cast list DOES mention Christopher Walken (What's this all about???) He's listed seventh after Hayden (first billing)...Ewan...Natalie....Samuel L....Ian McDiamrid... This is weird. In AOTC closing credits, Ewan is listed first. But not in this trailer. (incidentally, any shot of Ewan used in this trailer, is TPM era. Clean-shaven Ewan.) The trailer ends with simply: 2002. (Apparently this ran in theaters back in 2001 but I never saw it, must have been during a two-or-three month period when I didn't even go to the movies. What's up with all this mystery footage that didn't even make it into AOTC? Has Episode III been in production already? What happened to Walken? Has this even been discussed in this newsgroup already?
I want to understand. Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi, you're my only hope.
