Forgive me if this has been discussed but I'm brand new to this list.
Does anyone know about the Asian DVD releases of the Special Edition trilogy? They claim to have removable subtitles and are not VCDs, but real DVDs. Are these just more bootlegs? Any help or info is greatly

Basically they are Laser Discs that have been transferred to DVD, i believe one of them is even mistitled as The New Hope or something similar. So yes, essentially they are bootlegs. Apparently the picture quality isn't as good as a dvd usually is so you'd be well advised to wait to see what Lucas's DVD intentions are for the original trilogy. Unless it is a choice between VHS and these discs, as they should be superior to the VHS.

It's not Asian DVD's, only people can be asian. The word you are looking for is 'oriental'

I've never seen any official DVD's in Asia. Only VCD's.

Sorry Charlie, didn't mean to offend. I thought the word 'oriental' had become antiquated and not the most politically correct of words these days, kind of like the word 'Negro.'
I believed that these discs were far-Eastern in origin because their removable subtitles were advertised as 'Chinese, Maylay and Thai.' But bootlegs with REMOVABLE subtitles? Are bootleggers that sophisticated these days? Sounds like a far cry from the old Handicam-in-the-back-row-of-the-theater days. Of course, if it is a bootleg, the removable subtitles advertised could also be a big fat lie.
