Aloha All, Saw AOTC twice today and just wanted to give my opinions as to what I disliked about it.
Actually, now that I think about it, my biggest gripes are the 'fake' action or comedic sequences. By 'fake' I don't mean visually, but just couldn't happen in the real world, the 'yeah right' or 'aw, c'mon' kind of thing. Star Wars of course is not the real world, but we didn't have to put up with such stupid stuff in the first trilogy.
For example: C3PO switching heads with the battle droid. His head gets whacked off and drops perfectly in an open spot in the assembly line of other heads. Then his headless body walks over to an empty spot in the body assembly line.
Obi-wan crashing through the glass to grab the bug-delivery droid. Then Zam(name?) shooting it out from over him. Then Annakin catching him in the car.
Annakin jumping out of one car and landing on the other one. gimme a break...
C3PO falling and catching hold of the loader thing underneath him.
Padme falling out of the troop transport and not getting hurt.
Obi-wan falling and catching himself by holding on to that wire.
Shmi lives a full month after being captured by the Tuskens and dies two minutes after Annakin arrives.
Oh yeah a BIG ONE. Why didn't Annakin or Obi-wan go back to Tattooine and pay for Shmi's release years ago? Why all of a sudden in the middle of his first assignment, does Annakin bail and jump to her rescue? 10 years?
(already asked in another post, but) Why wouldn't Owen or Beru recognize R2 or 3PO in ANH now that they've already seen them?
Windu says 'I'll take the Jedi we have left and go help Obi-Wan'. Why take all of them? There are only like 20 left? They maintain the peace throughout the thousands of systems in the republic?
They're Jedi and all, but even they couldn't block all those thousands of lasers with light sabers. They would have been cut down in seconds I think.
Who paid for the first 200,000 clones if no one knows who ordered them? What about the next million of them?
Why would Jango live in cloneville anyway? The alien guy said 'We keep him here' like he was a captive, but he seems to move around at will.
They had that laser grid security in Amidala's room, but no sensors on the windows?
Boba picks up his fathers decapitated head? That wasn't just an empty helmet...
Midichloriens (sp?) are from TPM, but that whole concept was so stupid, its worth bringing up again. Little creatures all networked together to give humans telekenetic and psychic abilities? What was Mr Lucas thinking?
Oh well, I guess thats all I can think of for now. I would also appreciate it if anyone can post similar stupid stuff from the first trilogy. Maybe I'm mentally blocking things out that I don't want to remember.
Thanks,

wow... each of those questions have an answer that COULD work... sometimes you just have to give moviemakers the benefit of the doubt... did you at any point sit back & ENJOY the movie?

That's all cool, most of these are pretty cringeworthy. but the reason I don't mind is that most of the stuff happens in the original trilogy as well. Luke falling through Cloud City, slamming the backs of his legs on that antenna thing and not severing them? Please. Luke hitting that Death Star target without the aid of computers and less than rudimentary jedi training, yeah right. Han and Leia hanging around the bunker in ROTJ while 10000 troops are shooting at them and the only injury is a grazed arm? Not to mention every other stormtrooper encounter where they managed to miss three people.
Lots of stuff. Yet I still love those movies, I still like the first two of these. It's all good that people feel that way, I just can't work out why these ones piss them off so much. It must be something else.
I don't think it's technically bad acting and directing either, because the dialogue and interactions in the original trilogy were nothing to write home about. Some of the delivery from Mark Hamill in particular was positively embarassing.
Perhaps the fact the storylines in the original were only following the fortunes of the main characters (Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie, Threepio, R2 and Lando) whereas these ones are following Obi-Wan, Anakin, Padme etc but also looking at the overall problems with the republic and how the Jedi order is crumbling and the democracy being slowly replaced by a dictator.
I think the more complex storylines in the last (first) two have been necessary and IMO quite enjoyable, but maybe a lot of people prefer the single dimension storylines of the first trilogy (there were other side-plots but they all led to the main characters and came together at the end, while both Ep 1 and 2 are setting up for something which hasn't been resolved yet).
From what I've seen some people are saying 'oh, TPM makes sense now' and perhaps the same will be said of both TPM and AOTC when Ep 3 comes out. We'll see.
Interestingly I did a search on AOTC in other newsgroups, getting the opinion of non-fans and people not wanting to rile fans and they're generally fairly positive. Not proclaiming it the greatest movie of all time but they're enjoying it.
It's just like any movie, and particularly a blockbuster, a lot of people like it, a lot of people hate it. Both sets of people try to justify why they have that opinion, which I think is unnecessary really.

Come on, this was no worse than how most movies portray the internet or hacking, or how scientists and laboratories in spiderman. Hell, who is to say that the connecter for C3P0s head doesnt fit the battle droid body. Sure the metal fittings probably wouldnt fit, but a tig welding will hold good enough for it to stay on unless, lets say if it were pulled off by an astrodroid.
I though these were simply a good demenstration how tuned to the force annakin was which allowed him to catch ob1 or jump down to the car below.
The troop transport was relatively low. At least it was no higher than the skiffs that people were falling out of in RTOJ and definately moving slower than the speederbikes that Luke an Lea fell off of in RTOJ (and in those cases there were rocks, sticks, etc which could have caused more injury than the sand that Padme fell on to)
Again, demonstration of the force.
Movies do this all the time. Besides, its not unrealistic. There a many many stories about people who were dying that stayed alive just long enough to see their loved ones.
Throughout the movies we have seen a number of astrodroids and at least 1 other protocal droid that I can recall (on besbin). Its perfectly concevable that they have seen a number of similar looking droids which would explain why they dont remember the these two.
He did take who was left. The rest were on assignment. So he took who ever was around.
The republic. The person who ordered them obviously saw their purpose 10 years later. A pay on delivery deal would not be uncommon.
They probably keep him around as a comparison or to provide fresh DNA samples.
Are you talking about the blue lights. If so, the blue light was on the window but then split (into a square) by the hunterdroid. Im not sure if this was a security system or just ambient light from outside though.
Yeah he picked up the head, the head didnt fall out b/c there was a chin strap.
And this something you disliked about episode 2?
No it sounds to me like you went into the movie with your mind already made up. Now you are just bitching about minor details.

How do you know they don't (although to be fair, there are lots of R2 units, and Owen didn't know it's designation, and C-3PO frankly didn't have the shiney covering he did in AOTC). If at some point they did recognize them though, or their names at least (but it's not sure they paid that much attention....in ANH he just says 'those two droids' , it makes sense that Owen wouldn't say anything. Clearly he doesn't want to remind Luke of his father, etc. so it's not like he's going to say 'Oh, btw, I remember your father bringing these droids here a few decades ago'.

Shmi lives a full month after being captured by the Tuskens and dies two minutes after Annakin arrives.
(love is a powerfull thing. some people try to survive or hold on as long as possible untill someone they know comes along that they really love.(luck of the draw,i guess) i could say the same thing about my mom who lived for 2 months and then dies a day after i visit her.) anakin did mention to her he would be back)
Oh yeah a BIG ONE. Why didn't Annakin or Obi-wan go back to Tattooine and pay for Shmi's release years ago?
(could it be, it was not part of their training. considering anakin was not even supposed to be on tatonine in the first place. most likely the training and missions had the prioritys)
Why all of a sudden in the middle of his first assignment, does Annakin bail and jump to her rescue? 10 years?
(the closer he got to tatoine the stronger his feeling were in the force. he had dreams before. but now he was on his own)
(already asked in another post, but) Why wouldn't Owen or Beru recognize R2 or 3PO in ANH now that they've already seen them?
(i already gave a theory in previous post)
Windu says 'I'll take the Jedi we have left and go help Obi-Wan'. Why take all of them?
(according to the novel, windu could not round up enough jedi in time. their are thousands all throughout the galaxy)
There are only like 20 left?
(only 20 that could be located in time)
They maintain the peace throughout the thousands of systems in the republic?
(nope, because there are hundreds or thousands of jedi already. it's just like if i asked all my next door neighbors to help, but i had other friends in differents states. most likely the friends further away could not make it in time)
They're Jedi and all, but even they couldn't block all those thousands of lasers with light sabers. They would have been cut down in seconds I think.
(most of them are killed, thats why they are called jedi, they are bad asses))
Who paid for the first 200,000 clones if no one knows who ordered them?
(the darkside, probally sidious or someone else. it's a lot like politics who knows where all the funds go)
What about the next million of them?
(already paid for maybe)
Why would Jango live in cloneville anyway?
(because he has to give them his dna samples)
The alien guy said 'We keep him here' like he was a captive, but he seems to move around at will.
(he does, you need to read the book)
They had that laser grid security in Amidala's room, but no sensors on the windows?
(yeap. someone steps on the floor it would trigger the sensor. do you ever expect something small to enter your room to kill you)
Boba picks up his fathers decapitated head? That wasn't just an empty helmet...
(yes, it's called a pg movie,we get the idea)
Midichloriens (sp?) are from TPM, but that whole concept was so stupid, its worth bringing up again. Little creatures all networked together to give humans telekenetic and psychic abilities? What was Mr Lucas thinking?
(the same things japanese people believe in. i guess japanese are stupid too. it is real phenoman based on mitochrondia)
Oh well, I guess thats all I can think of for now. I would also appreciate it if anyone can post similar stupid stuff from the first trilogy. Maybe I'm mentally blocking things out that I don't want to

It shows that he's taken care of his mother and hasn't abandoned her for 10 years, which is a big hole in AOTC
that is a bigger hole, he feels guilty because he did leave her and not take care of her. he refuses to let go.

Not too much of a problem with this one, we know from Episode I that the Republic is dominated by a bureacracy, it's not that hard to 'lose' millions/billions of dollars/credits, especially when you're the Supreme Chancellor.

For a professional army, the stormtroopers don't know how to handle their weapons. The clones in ATOC were shooting from the hip instead of holding their weapons to their cheeks, sighting their targets.
Maybe they have target acquisition displays in those helmets that show them what the barrels of their guns are pointed at; that would be cool. But after 4 movies, I don't think we've ever seen a stormtrooper's POV shot. And if they do have integral sighting in the helmets, why is their accuracy so poor?
