There is no government. There is no senate. No leader. The regional governors I'm sure liked the Empire and won't want to give that up. The rebel alliance is just a bunch of people from all walks of life who don't like tyranny. They have no real political clout.

I'm guessing at this point, is when the period of anarchy in the SW universe

no, the Empire is held together by several puppet leaders who are controlled by the Moffs. Yes a few moffs break off to create their own empire, but there is not total anarchy.

I see. Does that mean the rebellion will start to go after these guys too?

It seems to me that the galaxy didn't do well with equal representation in a democratic forum, become too much bureucracy impeded progress. Yet, when someone tried to create a dictatorship, they didn't like that either. (We'll ignore the fact that he's evil for now and went around blowing up planets).

Just what kind of government do these people want?

Obviously different people want different governments.

Look at most 'western' governments ... you always have some of the population that wants something different. Yes, there are even Americans who wouldn't mind having a dictatorship.

It is possible with the recent memory of the Empire, that any 'Republic' post ROTJ might be more careful to prevent things from getting too bogged down.

Damn, I guess it is time for me to read 'Foundation' again though.

In 'Clones' it's said that the Republic lasted a thousand years, so I would imagine a republic having appeal. However, in view of the bureaucratic nightmare we've seen in this trilogy, such a republic is likely to be different, perhaps leaning toward Libertarian ideology.

Thats different, there wasnt much left of Germany when hitler died, when the Emperor died, most of everything else was still intact, sure that small battlegroup at the battle of yavin was damaged severly, but the other 24000 star destroyers were still on patrol.

Then what has the rebellion really won? They can build yet another Death Star in less than 2 years. And can't someone else rise to lead the Empire?

Several tried. By the EU time line it took about 10 years before a finial peace was declared. The New Republic controlling 75% of the galaxy and a coalition of Imperial Moff holding the rest.

I've only read a few of the major EU books, and most of those were actial books on tape while driving cross state. I don't know what happen to that last bit of the Empire during the war with the U-Von-Gon <sp?>.
