Nothing official, just a thought: In 2005, those of us who demand the original versions of Eps 4-6 will most likely be forced into buying some $500 limited ultimate edition box set of the saga instead of the regular release which will only include the Special Editions.
Since that's what's happening with E.T. in August (albeit cheaper), it seems likely.

The thing with lucas is, he doesnt live DVD.
At all.
DVDs last a LOT longer than VHSes do. With VHS, if your tape gets eaten by the VCR, you have to go buy another. Theres not many DVD players that are going to eat your DVDs (though, i AM looking at you Mr. X-Box)

Why do so few people get this?
It's not like he's going to release the pre-'Episode IV: A New Hope' version either, or any of the other versions with slight changes. The Special edition is the only version Lucas considers as his work (unless he updates it again).
