Unlikely. I've talked to many people both hardcore fans and not who just

people who took opening day of for TPM who say they probably will wait for the lines to die down before going to see it. They all say Lucas killed SW for them with TPM. It will do well but no where near as good as Spiderman which is a movie comic book fans have been waiting for since the 60s. Michael

Exactly my point, and with less budget and smaller advertising and promotion campaign, it cannot beat it, add to that the Thursday release date.

Step back from your monitor.....take a deep breath.....realize what you are saying:

YOU WOULD PICK - A movie starring 3 actors who were culled from the smelliest trailer parks in West Virginia. One wears red pajamas and fights crime. Another has no redeeming qualities except some nice-looking nipples in a wet T-shirt. The last has decent acting talent but a face only a mother could love. Throw in some third-rate CGI and a script thats been collecting dust for 50 yrs, and this is the best movie of 2002?

OVER - An epic saga of heroes, villians, jesters, knights, queens, princesses, and mystical forces interweaved in a rich universe filled with endless struggles between love & hate, life & death, humor & drama, good & evil - all on a grand scale that can barely be fit within 6 full-length feature films, and could easily fit 9 or 12 movies. Dont forget the writer & director is responsible for 4 of the highest-grossing films of all time, owns the special effects company that has won more Oscars for its leading-edge work than all others combined, and a man who singlehandedly is leading the film industry into the digital age.

Sorry for the repeat posting....some of you have very thick skulls and need to read this 5 or 6 times before it sinks in.

I hate to break this to you, but after I saw TPM (after being a fan of the SW saga since it's inception in 1977), I just couldn't respect George Lucas anymore. He took entirely too long to continue the saga, and most of it seemed contrived.

I also hate to break this other snippet of information to you: to most people, the world does not revolve around Star Wars or George Lucas. Granted, the guy is a great filmmaker, but he's getting too caught up in the corporate world to tell a truly good story.

On the other hand, Spider-Man has a built in fan base of 40 years (sure pales in comparison to SW's 25 at this point) and tells a plausible real-time story that everyone can relate to.

And when I go to a theatre, I don't care if the guy has never made a movie in his life, or he's made 4 of the highest grossing blockbusters of all time. Both films will get a level playing field from me, and whichever one is better, will be the one I recommend, regardless of the monetary history of the creator.

You have truly shown your idiocy as a moviegoer. I've seen the body of Tobey's work

First of all I'd just like to go on the record and say I love Star Wars and have my whole life. I Can't wait until Attack Of The Clones comes out. That being said, I also enjoy alot of other types of movies as well. I don't understand why in this newsgroup its wrong to dislike other movies. I saw Spiderman last night and it was incredible. The special effects didn't look at all cheesy and MacGuire made a believable Spiderman. I think its the perfect movie. Some of the arguements in here are ridiculous. For example the guy who said tobey MacGuire was trailer trash who couldnt act. Obviously he hasnt seen any of his movies. I think its very cool that its breaking all sorts of attendance records. I really don't think AOTC will match this. Should that matter? No. Some people in here are taking it very personally that Spiderman is making alot of money. Unless you were involved with either movie than why should this matter? I really think the star wars fans would enjoy Spiderman if they gave it a chance. I really don't think George Lucas will mind. Honest.
